Preventive and restorative dentistry are the two areas that dental insurance companies tend to provide coverage for. Because these services are designed to improve oral health and minimize the potential for problems later on, you can expect to receive financial assistance from your insurer once you meet your deductible. Cosmetic dental treatment, however, is not covered because it is deemed “elective.” These are not necessary, so you’ll be unlikely to receive any kind of financial help from your insurance company.

What Does My Dental Insurance Cover?

We cannot detail what your dental insurance will cover until we have a chance to review your plan. However, many insurers follow a 100-80-50 design, which means preventive services are covered at 100%, minor restorative services are covered at 80%, and major restorative services are covered at 50%.

If you require orthodontics, you’ll need to check your plan to determine if it is included. There may be exclusions or stipulations based on age or the type of braces. It may also be possible that you will need to purchase an additional policy to ensure your orthodontic treatment is included.
